創會領袖—何桐先生   Founding leader–  Mr Tung Ho

To Shu Tung Ho, (or Ho Tung to most people who knew him) lived a fulfilling life.   His life was all about his ancestral roots,  the love for his six children, his passion in photography and the betterment of his community.

Born and raised is Enping, he always placed his village close to his heart.   When he met  a new person of Chinese descent, his first question was always which village or area in China did he/she come from.  He would especially engage in long conversations with people from Enping or its neighbouring villages.

As a diligent student in Enping School, he placed first in the province-wide Certificate of Education Examination in Guangdong.  After graduating as a teacher from the Sun Yet-Sun University, he taught in Taiwan before returning to Enping School to teach during the second World War.  He knew the importance of education and always passed on the knowledge he gained.

He developed his love for photography while living in Shanghai

and established Ho Tung Studio after he immigrated to Vancouver.  Highly passionate about his photography work and his community, he became one of the founding members of Chung Ai Photographic Society of Vancouver and the Ho’s Benevolent Association of B.C.

Being involved with the late formidable Dr. Francis Ho in the Ho’s Benevolent Association was an incredible experience that influenced his life.  He would be honoured that the Ho’s Benevolent Association has kindly named its two scholarships after the most influential Dr. Francis Ho and himself.

What he always wanted was something better for those who came after him.   He would be immensely proud to support education for the future generations through this memorial scholarship.
